"Why ultra-running? I guess I have a natural ability and physique for endurance events and specifically running so I was drawn to ultra-running. I also enjoy it in a pleasure (beautiful scenic routes) -pain (sore muscles and bursting lungs) type of way. I have been running for years and I think if one sticks at something for long enough one gets good at it.

I train my body for the physical demands and in unison the mind unconsciously prepares too. Race day is what the training has all been about. Yes, I am nervous but excited too. Excited to push myself and be rewarded with the satisfaction of racing and racing well (hopefully).

A race day routine is important to settle nerves as it gives you a focus. Hectic Hamster® fits in perfectly here. A coffee on waking and, if possible, a sip just before the start... big smile and we are off!" Jo Meek
